We’re glad you are interested in working at Camp DeSot next summer. Consider volunteering for a service organization or working with children this semester - experience in these settings will teach you so much about what being a good camp counselor requires!
We will accept applications mid November through early January. (There is no official “deadline” to apply, as we will continue accepting applications until we have a full staff. However it is very helpful to have applications in before Christmas.)After reading applications and checking references, we will contact potential staff to set up job interviews after Christmas break. Interviews are conducted in January and February, and job offers will be extended before Spring Break.
When you begin the application, please be prepared to submit the name and email address of four references - an adult who knows you well, another adult from your hometown, a former employer, and a peer (preferrably someone who knows Camp DeSoto.)
Camp DeSoto counselors are nurturing, hard working, creative, thoughtful, and fun. They are teachers, leaders, servants, and friends.
This job will stretch you. Being a Camp DeSoto counselor is hard work. You will be challenged to lean into God’s strength and discover your own depths.
The joys, friendships, lessons learned, and campers loved will enrich your life forever.
Camp DeSoto Program and SERVE Staff members must be at least 18 years old and have completed their freshman year of college by June 2019 (unless otherwise discussed with the directors.)
All Staff members are required to attend Pre-Camp Training May 31 - June 6, 2019.
If you are hoping to be a Camp DeSoto counselor this summer, we suggest you spend time with kids! Find a job babysitting or volunteer at an after school program. Look for opportunities to care for other people and stretch your service muscle. We look forward to talking with you about your experiences.
