Support Staff
Support Staff Members at DeSoto are integral to the overall operation of Camp.
Support Staff teams include kitchen staff (cooks, servers, and dishwashers), housekeeping staff, and the facilities & maintenance team (grounds keepers & barn hands).
Camp DeSoto is an all-girl Christian summer camp located in Mentone, Alabama. We host 3 summer sessions. Each summer we hire college-age girls to be cabin counselors and to teach activities.
Outside of that we also hire lots of local staff. All support staff positions start at $13/hour. Our 2026 Summer Season dates are May 25th-July 31st as well as a required training/orientation day..

Job Descriptions
Barn Hands
– Part time, male or female applicants
– 5 – 6 hours/day, Monday – Saturday
– Morning Shift or Afternoon shift
– Assist head of horseback in all barn duties
– Feed the horses
– Brush and saddle the horses
– Clean the barn, saddles, lead ropes, and other equipment
Housekeeping
– Part time, female applicants only
– 4 – 6 hours/day, Monday – Friday (occasional weekend work)
– Work in teams to maintain the overall cleanliness of Camp
– Clean and stocking bathrooms
– Clean (vacuum, dust, mop) gathering spaces and activity buildings
Dining Hall Server
– Part Time, female applicants only
– Set up, serve, and clean up after meals
– 3 meals a day (excluding Sunday Supper)
– Rotating schedule so you never work all 3 meals
– Meal shifts:
– Breakfast: 7:00am-10:00am
– Lunch: 12:00pm-3:00pm
– Supper: 5:30pm-8:30pm
Dishwasher
– Part time, male or female applicants
– 3 meals a day (excluding Sunday Supper)
– 3 teams of two that rotate meals
– Tentative times for shifts:
– Breakfast: 7:30am-10:30am
– Lunch: 12:00pm-3:00pm
– Supper: 5:00pm-9:00pm
What to Expect
The Staff of Camp DeSoto form a supportive team, and you can expect a fun, friendly environment as we work hard to maintain the high quality standards that DeSoto has upheld for over 100 years. You’ll be working with people of all ages - from high schoolers and college students to all ages of adults.
Support Staff are largely “behind the scenes” at DeSoto - taking care of day-to-day operations so that Counselors can focus on campers and their experience. You’ll get to be a part of the fun by helping make it happen!
