Activities

At Camp DeSoto we want girls to feel free to “play” at their activities: to try something new in a low-pressure environment, or to enjoy practcing a skill they’re already comfortable with.

With over 30 activities to choose from, every girl will be able to find something she loves and something she’d love to try. From artistic, dramatic, creative activities to athletic, active, adventurous activities and everything in between, there is a lot of fun to be had at Camp DeSoto!

The Daily Schedule includes five activity periods each day, one of which is either an assigned shower period (for Junior campers) or an elective free period (for Intermediate and Senior campers). Campers can choose eight activities to take during their month at Camp – four Monday/Wednesday/Friday activities and four Tuesday/Thursday/Saturday activities.

Campers sign up for activity schedules shortly after they arrive at Camp. This gives girls a chance to practice independence by making their own schedules, with plenty of guidance from their counselors. Several activities are age-specific, allowing girls to experience new things each year of Camp.

We encourage girls to focus on individual achievement within each activity. Certificates and awards are presented at Final Banquet to those campers who improve their skill level or demonstrate improvement over self. Some activities conclude with a final competition, such as the Archery Tournament, Swim Meet, Horse Show, Tennis Tournament, or Craft Tea. It is always fun to see the ways girls support their friends and celebrate each other’s achievements.

Camp Activities are at the heart of our program, providing girls with a structured daily schedule, valuable learning opportunities, and most of all, a lot of fun!

Thank you so much for Camp DeSoto! I have truly become a better person because of the summers I have spent here. I can see God in everything and everyone around me here, and I cannot describe what a magical feeling that is!… DeSoto will always stay with me.
